Your AI agent: the voice that makes the call
An agent is the AI caller: its script, its voice, and the rules for when to hand someone off to a buyer. Agents live in your voice provider's account; the AI Agents page is where you tell lead2inbound which ones to use.
Three ways to get one
Click Add agent and pick your voice service:
- Pick one we found — once your key is connected we list the agents already in that account. One click adds it and it becomes selectable on campaigns.
- Add by ID — paste the agent ID from your provider's dashboard and give it a name you'll recognize. Handy when the list is long, or if discovery is having a bad day.
- Create from template (beta) — pick a vertical (insurance or home services) and we build the agent in your Retell account for you: the qualifying script, the transfer setup, the webhook, and the analysis fields your stats depend on. You can name it and optionally give a Retell voice ID; leave the voice blank for a stock US-English voice and swap it in Retell later. This one is new — open the agent in your Retell dashboard and read it before your first real call.
ElevenLabs agents are built in ElevenLabs' own dashboard, then added here with either of the first two methods.
Keeping an agent current
We refine the standard prompt rules as we learn from live calls — how to behave on a voicemail, holding quietly through a transfer, never re-asking a question. For an ElevenLabs agent, Update rules on the AI Agents page brings it up to the current rule set in one click: rules it's missing are added, and anything you wrote or edited yourself is left exactly as it was. If the agent already has everything, we say so and change nothing.
What a good qualifying agent does
- Speaks first. An agent that waits politely for "Hello?" says nothing to a phone's call screener, and the call dies as a missed call. Open by saying who's calling and why — see Why phones don't ring.
- Says it's an AI, in the opening line. It's the honest posture, and it performs better.
- Names the same company as your caller ID and the consent language on your webform. A mismatch reads as a scam to consumers and to the carriers' spam models.
- Confirms your qualification criteria before asking to transfer.
- Marks the outcome so your reporting works: whether the person qualified, whether a human (not a machine) was reached, and whether they asked not to be called again — that last one suppresses the number permanently and automatically.
No script yet? Start a campaign from a template — Campaigns → New campaign → Start from a template shows the qualification checklist for that vertical plus a starter prompt you can copy straight into your agent.
Using an agent in a campaign
On the campaign form, Who makes the call? is where you pick it. The agent decides which voice provider the campaign dials through, which in turn changes the caller-ID field next to it: a Retell campaign takes a plain phone number, an ElevenLabs campaign picks from the numbers registered in your ElevenLabs workspace. Either can rotate through a number pool instead.
Callbacks reach your agent too
Numbers you buy, rotate, or import get an inbound agent assigned automatically, so when someone misses your call and rings the number back, your AI answers instead of the call going nowhere.
